5 Tips for a Winning Air Conditioner Performance This Spring
For many racing fans, May is an exciting month, culminating with the wildly anticipated Indianapolis 500 on May 26. And it got us thinking: What does it take to make those Indy Cars run smoothly each racing season? Plenty! We’re pretty sure it takes lots of maintenance, elbow grease, and a few filter changes—much like the preparation involved in spring air conditioning maintenance.
So let’s shift gears and talk about your summer AC tune-up. Is your home prepared? After all, summer is just around the corner! And if you want to avoid AC repair in St. Charles County, MO, later on in the hot and sweaty season, now is the time to get things revved up and ready to go!
Here are five ways you can improve the performance of your AC system this season:
Clean or change your air filters. This is probably the easiest thing for every homeowner to do! Change your air filters regularly or clean them if you have washable filters. The cleaner your filters, the less work your system has to do to keep your home cool.
Check your lines. Inspect your refrigerant lines—these pipes are typically wrapped in insulation and look like a pool noodle. If you notice any cracks or disconnections, you can prevent problems by calling Jerry Kelly for a quick fix. If everything looks fine, you’re good for another season.
Inspect that outside unit. The effects of a long winter can take a toll on your outdoor unit. Check for nests, twigs, grass, weeds, or other debris that could be wrapped around the outside unit. Cleaning away debris that has accumulated over the winter months will help your system run more efficiently.
Clean those vents and ducts. Take a vacuum to those return vents and remove any dust bunnies that have taken over. You might consider professional duct cleaning, too. Clean ducts allow an AC system to run at top efficiency and cut back on air pollutants that make their way into your home.
Get a tune-up. By far the most effective way to cut back on summer repairs is to get a spring tune-up now from your friends at Jerry Kelly! Our experienced technicians will thoroughly clean your condenser coils, lubricate moving parts, evaluate refrigerant levels, calibrate your thermostat, tighten electrical connections, inspect ductwork, and more!
We’ll Never Steer You Wrong!

Prefece/Conclusion: I will let you draw your own overall conclusions. Just know I have detailed my all my interactions of almost 4 years I have been a JK customer below. What I have settled upon is they cost a premium which I am happy to pay that is why they are "8 days a week". I am willing to pay the premium dilemma I have is if I can't trust a company or the individuals I let impact my biggest investment in my life which is my family and home which I can't anymore. FYI capacitors on Amazon $30.Dec 2023 (beginning): New system installed by ANOTHER cmpany (cost way less wait took 2 weeks though worth the wait). The difference was they had great customer service and were personable. If I am spending a small fortune it is the little things that make the difference. It is nice to have heat again, not have to rely on space heaters, and peace of mind in a new system.Nov 2023 (late): Don P did an amazing job again customer service wise and stood behind JK money back guarantee. Something I respect JK didn't charge me when they knew I was down needing a new furnace for my "annual service club". Something like that would be an extra kick in the teeth. This is a good policy I recommend advertising that more good for customer service which is top notch most times overall.I would have paid the premium for a new system that I knew JK comes with (see review just below for more context) the problem is unfortunately I at this point have to discontinue service. The relationship is i can't trust JK at this point. The difference was not standing behind the capacitor warranty of 3 years when IT BROKE AFTER 3 MONTHS WHICH IS ALL I ASKED (see May 2023 review below). The other companies I brought out pointed to the capacitor and saw no other indications running the same and even more tests than JK did on my AC. Only the 3rd company coming out that had an explanation with all the power surges and brown outs why it didn't work. They also explained a "swollen" capacitor looked like a soda can dropped on it side which was easy to understand. They won my business instead of just a service fee. I spent comparable money getting 2nd to 4th opinons as what JK cost for May 2023 visit. It shows how much or a premium you truly pay but they are very fast.Nov 2023 (mid): They came out ran furnance annual and then I was told I had a cracked heat exchanger (which it appears I did with 2nd through 4th opinions). Mark P did an excellent job with the diagnosis and I am very grateful. What troubled me was when I asked hard questions asked I had no firm answers. I was then quoted $19K-$26K for new system top to bottom. It looked like a ploy coming off Aug 2023OCT 2023: Got through the remaining 8 weeks of summer with no issues. Call to get my money back (which I did). Don he did an amazing job and I was satisfied enough to try and repair the relationship so I let JK do my furnance cleaning. See review above.AUG 2023: Came back out because AC unit wouldn't start. I was told I had a "swollen capacitor" poorly explained and I was talked down too. I was told very quickly it would be potentially $500-$3000 to remedy depending on what was needed and they didn't want me chasing "money into a bad unit". I asked them to stand behind their new capacitor which they warranty for 3 years but they didn't. I paid the $100~ service call and didn't debate. Called 3 more companies for estimates and simple diagnosis. The 4th company said same thing and actually explained it well. They cost $187 for what was $500~ with JK. I am not even worried about the price difference was more that JK didn't stand behind their warranty capacitor.MAY 2023: Follow on business and Dalton did a great job with my ac tune up. Needed a new capacitor.AUG 2019: I never go out of my way to fill our a survey or recommend anything it is not in my nature but I feel I have to let everyone know how great Tammy (dispatch) and John your tech did an excellent job. Replaced my capacitor and house was cooling again. Called them at 630PM and AC was on at 9PM which is good cause it was hot.
Dylan was very professional and answered all my questions. I have used Kelly for many years, and have never had a bad experience with any of their representatives. Thank you, Dylan.
Very impressed with the professionalism and workmanship. Mike C. did a great job in completing the maintenance. He shared the status of the furnace unit, pointed out current issues, and any potential problems that might arise. He explained the necessary repairs and made recommendations on monitoring the ac and furnace.
Beware of the financing they offer through Ally Bank!!! My neighbors house caught fire and cause damage to my AC unit. The entire unit needed to be replaced. I had to go the finance route because the claim against my neighbor was taken longer than expected. It was 90 degree in my house and needed the unit installed ASAP. While gong over the terms of the loan it was explained to me that I had 6 months interest free to pay down the loan, then after 6 months I'd be paying monthly payment on the whatever the remaining amount was. The insurance claim went through a week after the install, The unit cost $14000, I got $10000 from the insurance company, less than expected. Once the check cleared from the insurance company, I paid $10000 to Ally Bank. Leaving a $4800 balance. I added an additional $800 bringing the balance to $4000. As explained to me I'd have 120 months to pay off $4000, with the $4000 spread out over 120 months. This is NOT the case. Ally Bank forces you to pay off the loan in less than 2 years with a high monthly payment. I know you should read the fine print, so I went back and looked. This clause was buried in the contract. It doesn't make sense Beware!!!
Both Technicians were friendly and knowledgeable. They didn’t rush the inspection of our furnace, we greatly appreciated the thorough inspection.-The Glass family
