Ways to help fight those holiday germs in your home

Around this time of year, the air becomes especially stagnant as we spend more time indoors. We also become exposed to cold and flu germs as we have holiday guests coming in and out of our homes. Despite re-circulation, your interior air begins to accumulate concentrated amounts of pollutants like mold, dust, pet dander, and bacteria. This is problematic, especially since most Americans spend up to 90 percent of their time indoors.

Although air filters trap a good many of these pollutants, they’re not able to completely capture many of the microscopic particles that pass around in the air, carrying virus-laden germs to give us exactly what we don’t want for the holidays.

Ways to clean the air inside your home

  1. Air purifiers: clean the air and provide high-efficiency air filtration. Whether you have a room unit or a house-wide filtration system, having an air purifier installed can go a long way toward keeping pesky germs out of the air you breathe.
  2. Whole-house humidifiers: improve the comfort in your home as well as your dry skin and sinuses. Humidifiers add the right amount of moisture to the dry, heated air of winter.
  3. UV germicidal lamps: eliminate bacteria, viruses, mold spores, and other microbes in the air. UV light contains just the right amount of energy to break organic molecular bonds and destroy the offending microorganisms. They also help control common odors in the home using the same process. Additionally, they improve air handling efficiency.
  4. Indoor Air Analysis: means kicking air pollutants out. Trained technicians can restore clean air to your home with indoor air quality products and remove particulates such as animal dander, dust mites, fungus, bacteria, viruses, and chemicals. When properly installed, indoor air quality products may offer significant relief for those suffering from asthma, allergies, and respiratory illness.
