Don’t Forget About the 2013 Air Conditioner Tax Credits!

Earlier this year we posted a blog about the 2013 tax credits that are available for installing energy-efficient HVAC systems. Now that we only have about three months left in the year, we wanted to remind you about these credits and go over some of the benefits of taking advantage of them before it’s too late!

Why take advantage of air conditioner tax credits at the end of the cooling season?

The cooling season is winding down, so installing a new air conditioner might be the farthest thing from many people’s minds. But there are a couple of reasons why now is a great time to take advantage of air conditioner tax credits. For one, these credits expire on December 31, 2013. And although this year’s credits were extended to include all eligible systems that were installed between 2012 and 2013, there are currently no plans for extending the credits any further.

In addition, it’s typically best to install new air conditioners and furnaces at the same time so that they don’t have mismatched parts or variances in performance and efficiency. With the heating season on the horizon, and given the fact that credits are also available for energy-efficient furnaces, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the furnace and air conditioner tax credits!

Benefits of taking advantage of the air conditioner tax credits

  • Save money on unit. The most obvious benefit of taking advantage of these air conditioner tax credits is that you save money on the costs of installing a new cooling system. In particular, you can get a $300 tax credit for qualifying air conditioners and heat pumps.
  • Save money on energy costs. Because cooling systems must meet energy-efficient standards to qualify for the credits, you’ll be investing in a system that will likely cost less to operate than your current system.
  • Have a brand new air conditioner ready for next summer. As air conditioners age, they begin to lose efficiency and experience performance problems. By installing a brand new air conditioner now, your home will be fully prepared to take on next summer’s heat!

Remember to take a look at our earlier post for specifics about the qualifications that heating and cooling systems must meet t be eligible for the 2013 tax credits.
