Air Quality 101

To protect the health and comfort of your family the only truly effective solution is a whole-house solution.

Indoor Air Quality starts with setting the proper temperature. A programmable thermostat provides a great opportunity to set comfortable temperatures for those times when your family needs them most – and lower or increase the temperatures when your family is away – all automatically!

In our area, there is no better way to improve comfort than by adding a whole-house humidifier during the winter. Too little humidity leads to chronic physical symptoms such as dry throats, itchy skin, nose bleeds, and sinus irritation-plus added discomfort to family pets and potential damage to your home and furniture. A well-installed humidifier provides many years of comfort and gets you the flexibility to conveniently change the humidity levels in your home to match outdoor air temperatures and your family’s comfort levels.

You can make your home “a breath of fresh air” every day by adding whole-house air filtration. Gases and vapors from new/newer homes and furnishings can cause serious health problems. Odors from pets, cooking, dirty hampers, and the like can cause a lot of discomfort. Adding ventilation by bringing in filtered outside air helps combat these effects and filtration can keep your home air clean. Whole-house filtration is not only economical but it helps to remove pollen, mold and mildew, bacteria/viruses, and dust mites.

Dehumidification is a great option in our area for those problem areas where too much humidity becomes both a health problem and a potential source of damage to our homes. A whole-house dehumidifier can be properly matched to the size of your home to help prevent mold and mildew growth, clammy skin that makes you feel too hot or too cold, and sticky/sweaty surfaces that can cause damage to your home and furnishings.

Indoor air quality can also be improved with a Jerry Kelly Heating, Air Conditioning, Electrical and Plumbing certified heat load calculation to determine if your existing furnace and air conditioner/heat pump are properly sized. Undersized equipment can be uncomfortable and expensive to operate and oversized equipment can be too noisy and fail to adequately heat and cool your home evenly. Our 24/7 service can also determine if your existing equipment is not functioning properly and needs adjustment or repairs to bring it back to proper manufacturer specifications.

Finally, a solution to serious health problems caused by indoor air and surface pollution such as gases/odors, viruses such as flu, cold and strep, and particulates/microbes is available with the new “REME”. The REME is a UV light that sends advanced oxidizers into your home to destroy pollutants at the source, in the air, and on surfaces, before they can reach your family.
